For centuries, religion and politics were meant to guide people, to bring order, purpose, and structure to society. But over time, they have been manipulated, distorted, and weaponized. Today, if you dare to question the narrative, if you challenge the system, you are immediately labeled: anti-religious, anti-Semitic, anti-Islamic, anti-Christian, anti-left, anti-right. Why? Because the world has become so polarized that people have lost the ability to think for themselves. The ability to question has been replaced by an impulse to attack, as if disagreement itself is an existential threat.
People tend to forget that questioning something does not equate to hatred. The modern world, with its echo chambers and mob mentality, discourages open discussion. Instead of debating ideas, we attack the people who hold them. This has created a dangerous culture where critical thinking is seen as rebellion, and nonconformity is met with hostility. This isn’t just about religion or politics; it’s about the basic human right to form and express one’s own opinions without fear of being shamed or vilified.
This rigid, black-and-white way of thinking has seeped into every aspect of our lives. It is no longer enough to have an opinion; we are expected to pledge allegiance to one ideology or another. Those who choose to remain independent are often left isolated, accused of being ignorant or indecisive. But true wisdom lies in questioning, analyzing, and seeking to understand rather than blindly accepting what is presented as truth.
It’s time to reclaim free thought. It’s time to break free from the suffocating need to conform to an ideology in order to be accepted. The world is complex, and the issues we face require nuanced discussions. Until we learn to embrace diversity of thought, we will remain trapped in a cycle of division and intolerance.
The Origins: What Religion and Politics Were Supposed to Be
Religion, in its earliest form, was about spirituality, about understanding the unknown, about seeking purpose in life. It was a way to bring communities together, to explain natural phenomena before science could, and to create moral frameworks. The teachings of religious texts were meant to guide people toward being better versions of themselves. Spirituality was once a deeply personal experience, one that encouraged self-discovery and inner peace rather than blind obedience to authority.
Politics, too, had noble beginnings. It was originally conceived as a means to create structure in society, to establish laws and systems that ensured fairness and cooperation. The idea was to protect the people, not to control them. Early political systems were often based on communal decision-making, where leaders were chosen for their wisdom and ability to serve, rather than their ambition for power. Unfortunately, as civilisations grew, the pursuit of power became more enticing than the pursuit of justice.
Over time, both institutions began to change. Religion, once rooted in spirituality and self-discovery, became a means of societal control. Religious leaders realized that faith could be wielded as a weapon, and dogma took precedence over personal enlightenment. In politics, those in power learned that the easiest way to maintain control was to keep the people divided, feeding them narratives that served the elite while keeping the masses distracted and powerless.
Racism has also played a major role in the distortion of both religion and politics. Many religious teachings that were once about unity and humanity have been twisted to justify discrimination, colonisation, and oppression. Political systems have used race as a tool to maintain control, creating laws and policies that marginalise certain groups while favoring others. Throughout history, race has been weaponised to divide people, reinforcing the idea that some are inherently superior to others, a concept that has been used to justify both religious and political injustices.
Today, both religion and politics have strayed far from their original intentions. Instead of unity, they breed division. Instead of enlightenment, they encourage conformity. Instead of serving the people, they serve only themselves. Yet, despite this, many continue to defend these institutions without question, as though acknowledging their flaws would somehow invalidate their core principles. But questioning is not rejection—it is an essential part of progress.
The Evolution of Control: How Power Corrupts Everything
Throughout history, both religion and politics have been hijacked by those who crave power. Instead of being tools for enlightenment and unity, they became instruments of oppression and division. Religious wars, inquisitions, crusades, colonialism—all carried out in the name of God. Those in power twisted religious teachings to justify atrocities, convincing followers that their enemies were evil, and that violence was necessary for righteousness to prevail. The very faiths that preached love and peace became excuses for bloodshed and domination.
Political corruption followed a similar path. Rulers, kings, and governments throughout history have used propaganda and manipulation to maintain control over their people. They learned that an uninformed, fearful population is easier to govern than one that is educated and free-thinking. This has been seen time and time again, from the totalitarian regimes of the past to the modern democracies that function more like oligarchies, where money and influence dictate policy rather than the will of the people.
Racism has been deeply woven into this system of control. Slavery, segregation, apartheid, and systemic discrimination have been reinforced by both religious and political institutions, often justified by distorted interpretations of religious doctrine or legal structures created to oppress. The narrative of superiority versus inferiority has been used as a justification for wars, genocide, and social injustices. Even today, systemic racism persists under the guise of policy, tradition, and nationalism.
Conclusion: Reclaiming Thought and Individuality
We are tired. Tired of being labeled. Tired of being told what to think, how to feel, and who to follow. Tired of being forced into ideological camps that strip us of our individuality. Tired of political and religious leaders using fear to control us, rather than empowering us with knowledge and choice.
The world has reached a point where conformity is demanded, and questioning is met with punishment. But we are not meant to be sheep. We are meant to be free, to think for ourselves, to explore, to evolve. We are meant to challenge ideas, not blindly accept them.
It’s time to reject division. It’s time to reject the narrative that pits us against each other. It’s time to embrace critical thought, to reject fear-based control, and to stand up for our right to think freely. The systems that have controlled humanity for centuries are only as powerful as the people who submit to them. The moment we decide to break free, they lose their grip.
This is not rebellion. This is awakening. And once the mind is free, it cannot be enslaved again.
Note from the Author
It's time to open our minds, challenge outdated systems, and embrace a future built on understanding rather than blind allegiance. The world is complex, and so are we. Stay curious, stay bold, and never stop questioning.
Isn't it time for a revolution?
